City Manager Karen Jumonville

With more than 27 years of leadership experience at the City of Tallahassee, Dr. Karen Jumonville was appointed as Tallahassee’s City Manager in 2026, beginning her new role on October 1.

As City Manager, she leads a highly skilled and diverse workforce of nearly 4,000 employees, who share an unwavering dedication to be the national leader in the delivery of public service. She reports directly to the City Commission and is responsible for maintaining the management functions of city government and administering the day-to-day operations. She provides oversight of the City Commission meeting agenda process, working closely with the City Commission to establish long-term strategic plans, as well as short-term targets. She is responsible for an annual budget of approximately $1 billion, which includes both the operating and capital budgets, and guides the multifaceted operations of the largest single provider of municipal services in the region, including police, fire, public transportation, utilities, parks, and more.

Her career with the City started as a Senior Planner and advanced through positions of increasing responsibility, including Deputy City Manager. Dr. Jumonville brings a comprehensive understanding of every aspect of Tallahassee’s full-service municipal government. Her expertise in city management spans oversight of operations, budget development and fiscal stewardship, strategic planning, infrastructure and capital improvement programs, economic and community development, growth management, environmental sustainability and organizational administration.

While serving as Deputy City Manager, Dr. Jumonville helped lead development of the City's budget, balancing nearly $924 million in operating expenditures with $268 million in capital investments, while aligning resources with the Commission's strategic priorities and maintaining the City's long-standing commitment to fiscal responsibility.

Throughout her City career, whether creating the Residential Money-back Guarantee program and reducing permit review times from 12 to 2.3 days or helping advance infrastructure projects like the transformation of a polluted brownfield site into Cascades Park, our community’s premier community gathering spot, Dr. Jumonville leads with a collaborative style to address complex community challenges.
